My sage is flowering! Both myself and the bees are into it.
Still Working On It…
I’ve been working on getting some new pictures posted, but I’m stuck at the pencil sketch phase. Ugh. So here’s more old art! Yay?
Garden Update: Sketch Edition
I wanted to get some sketches done today, but also spend time outside gardening. That resulted in a series of garden update sketches.
The Hood strawberries below are June bearing! June is almost here! I’m so excited.
I never have good luck with kale in the garden getting big enough to eat, but it sure is pretty. I really like the Lacinato variety because it tastes like Collards but cooks like kale. Mmmmm. But see, this is where my kale is at right now. Going to seed? What is that? It’s May!
New Crochet Craft
I’ve been absolutely ADDICTED to making crochet jar covers. Compared to crocheting any kind of wearable item, it flies by and I can’t get enough of that project completed satisfaction.

I also have this weird thing with keeping glass jars “just in case”. In my defense I do put dry beans or walnuts or things like that in them. But I have all too many jars. So now, instead of having multiple uses they just have one! One really beautiful one! Ha.
And of course I had to toss a cable on that. Now that I got the hang of it, crocheting cables is amazingly fun.
New Custom Symbolism Picture
I had another request from a friend for a custom symbolism (imagery? Still unsure) piece. Since I’ve been destroying Copics I decided to try using acrylics on this one. It wasn’t nearly as time consuming as I initially thought, although I didn’t get too detailed on it either. I liked it rough (ha).
The Azaleas (red flowers at the top) represent abundance and temperance. And on the circle in the middle the two bottom left symbols (one looks like a cross, the other is two symbols side by side) represent salt and vinegar – which I only put in because they are a delicious combo. Salt and vinegar chips? Come on! I get to take some liberties with these custom works 🙂
I have an amazing friend (you may remember her from this post) who’s offered a few times to put my art in her beautiful space at Nassau West Salon. I had put it off for a while because I knew I should probably frame things first (get profesh), and also I’m lazy. Ha! But I finally committed and got some stuff together, which is awesome because a couple pictures sold.
Look at that art and soap display! So exciting! For as awkward as I feel charging people, it’s a really great feeling to know that someone enjoys what you’ve created. Although I got home and immediately felt guilty about charging. And still feel a bit guilty. Oh, me!
In addition, I made a new batch of soap to take in – clove sage with activated charcoal. So fancy!
The ones that sold were the girl holding her shoes (hey, sometimes the dogs start barkin’ and you’re really drunk and there’s no other option), and the elephant. I think my favorites are the fox/bunny and cat/birds dual pictures. I say “I think” because if I dwell on how much I love them, I’d never sell them. I’d be sitting inside with a pile of my art, just appreciating the charm.
The Shrimp
When I first painted the background of this, I thought I’d trim the edges off to fit it in one of the frames I have. So I left it rough – but then I really liked how the rough edges look with the rest of the picture. And now I have to buy a new frame…weeeep weeeeeep, ha.
I based it off this Jean Shrimpton photo I *love*
Custom Stuffs
I’ve being doing a few custom pieces for friends lately. They all have symbolism (is that the right term? Is it imagery?! I have no idea.) specifically chosen for them, so hopefully they like the finished pieces! Ha. I’ve only gotten feedback on the first one, but it was good!
I don’t want to give away all the secrets, as that’s part of the customization (being the only one to know…kind of…it’s all on the internet. Ha.) The holly represents domestic happiness, to help with a move.
This one is yet to be reviewed! I’m thinking it will go over well, though. The ferns represent endurance and the ability to grow in tough situations. Crocodiles represent adaptation, as they live in multiple environments.
Whoa, Photoshop! I couldn’t get a good picture of this one, and I overcompensated, apparently! Woof. Oh well! The day lily at the forefront of this one represents forgetting worries and is suited for giving to boys. I’m giving this picture to a boy! Look at these connections!!
In addition, I have some snaps of the line work as well as some other creepy sketch I did.
Skelelover skeletons
After drawing my Valentine’s Day heart, I still wanted to do a bit of anatomy oriented sketches. I tried to make this a romantic skeleton scene (eat your heart out?), but the innate creepiness took over. Oh well. I need some work on skeleton proportion anyways.
In addition, I sketched this skull!
It started out as my sketch pad for the top drawing, but I ended up liking the colors and shape on this skull wayyyy more. Sometimes sketches work out!
